Dan Barry grew up on a farm in northeastern Wisconsin. At a young age he began collecting and surrounding himself with found images and objects. When he completed his chores, he spent a lot of time making “art”. At the age of 15, he became an antique dealer. The money that he earned buying and selling antiques allowed him to attend a private high school and small liberal arts college where Dan studied cultural anthropology and fine art.
Dan creates art objects by collecting, cutting, glueing, scraping, drawing and assembling. The process of addition and reduction, repeated mark making and obsessive erasing, results in a history of marks, subtle details and layered texural beauty. Once complete, primary images are encased in a purposely selected found frame — one that resonates with and supports the emotional feel of the image. The creation of each art object, from beginning to end, is a purgative and meditative process. The resulting art objects contain surreal visions and personal narratives, which often seem ambiguous.
Dan’s artworks have been exhibited in numerous galleries across the USA and in Italy. Dan is currently working on new artworks for his solo show at MondoPOP (Rome) opening in May 2012. Additionally, he also works as an independent curator for several art galleries in the USA and Italy.
Edward Robin Coronel was born in Quezon City, Philippines. His family moved to the United States when he was a year old and they lived in a suburb, west of Chicago.
His maternal grandmother primarily raised him. He grew up adjacent to a set of parents, a paternal grandmother, 5 maternal aunts, and a sister—in a three bedroom home, all under one roof. Sometimes an uncle or two would stay for awhile. To escape, he would read, watch Saturday morning cartoons (when he could), or most often he would draw his own cartoons. Characters of his own creation would sometimes have adventures with Captain Caveman, Merle Stubbing (Captain of the Love Boat) and Ms. Garrett (Facts of Life).
Edward has no formal art training but has been drawing or “doodling” most of his life. Edward has a B.S. in Biology from the University of Illinois. He is deaf in his left ear. After 14 years working in the pharmaceutical industry, he is taking a break to pursue his art making. He started painting a couple of years ago. You can also find him volunteering at the Austin Humane Society or running with friends on the trails of Lady Bird Lake.
Edward is happiest when he draws, paints, works in the garden, or plays with his two dogs, Frankie and Max.
